Billing

Buying, renewing, cancelling and getting money back.

This page describes how billing works in practice. The contract itself is the terms of service, and where the two disagree the terms are what count.

Buying

Subscriptions are bought in your account. Create an account, pick a plan, and pay. What comes back is an activation key you enter in your own installation.

Paid plans are billed monthly or yearly.

Who takes the money

Polar Software, Inc. (polar.sh), a company established in the United States, is the merchant of record. Polar sells you the licence: it takes the payment, remits the tax for your country and issues the invoice, so the seller named on your receipt is Polar and not us. We are the vendor of the software, and the licence agreement stays with us. Polar is listed on the subprocessor page with everything it holds. Nothing is on sale while the beta runs, so no charge has been made yet.

Prices on this site are shown before tax. What you are charged at checkout may be higher once your country's VAT or sales tax is added.

Renewal

A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, at the price you are currently on, until you cancel it. The renewal date is shown in your account, and a receipt is emailed for every charge.

If we change a price, the change applies to renewals after we tell you about it, not retroactively to a period you have already paid for.

Cancelling

Cancel in your account, in one step, without asking anyone. There is no cancellation fee and no notice period.

Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not cut the period you have already paid for short: the licence keeps being reissued until that period ends, and after that it simply stops being renewed. What happens to a running installation then is described on the licensing page.

Refunds

Ask within fourteen days of a payment and we refund it. You do not have to give a reason and there is nothing to argue about: write to billing@portiger.com from the account that paid.

After those fourteen days the question becomes whether the software does what this site says it does. If it does not, tell us what went wrong and we will still refund you.

Whether you get a refund is our decision, on the terms written above. Sending it is Polar's job, because Polar took the payment: it goes back to the card or account it came from, on Polar's own timetable. Statutory rights, including a consumer's right of withdrawal where local law grants one, apply on top of anything written here and are not reduced by it.

Past that window, what we will not usually refund is a renewal that was simply forgotten about, on a subscription that was in use for the period it covered. Cancel before the renewal date and the situation does not arise.

A payment that fails

A failed charge is retried and you are emailed about it. Nothing is switched off at the first failure. If the payment is never completed, the subscription lapses at the end of the period it was covering and the licence stops being reissued from there.
